PSYD 846 Fundamentals of International Mental Health Work
This course focuses on mental health work in international humanitarian crises. Through a critical examination of topics such as large-scale humanitarian disasters, human trafficking, and gender-based violence, students will learn about cross-cultural applications of psychological theory and research, and considerations of assessment and intervention in an international context. Using examples of humanitarian crises around the world, we will discuss the role of psychologists in complex cross-cultural and sociopolitical situations, as well as ethical dilemmas that present themselves within the context of international humanitarian work.
