EDUF 506 A Survey of the Foundations of Teaching ESOL

This course prepares candidates to teach language and content in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) aligned with Florida’s educational statutes and rules. Candidates use evidence-based strategies to support language acquisition and academic achievement by examining and applying conceptual and pedagogical tools for teaching ESOL and designing and delivering instruction that accelerates English language acquisition and is differentiated according to language proficiency. The course also includes an overview of the 5 ESOL strands: Applied Linguistics, Methods of Teaching ESOL, Communication and Understanding for English Language Learners (ELLs), ESOL Curriculum and Materials Development, and Testing and Evaluation of ESOL. Assigned course requirements include the completion of 20 clinical hours.
