ECE 502 Quality Child Care for Infants and Toddlers

This course focuses on relationship-based, developmentally appropriate care and education for infants and toddlers in group settings. Emphasis is placed on responsive caregiving, developmental theory, play and routines as curriculum, supportive environments, and culturally responsive practice. Students analyze infant and toddler development across domains—including social-emotional, cognitive, language, and motor development—and apply theory to caregiving practices that support secure relationships and exploration. Integration of observation and reflective practice will be used to strengthen professional decision-making, ethics, and family partnerships in infant–toddler programs. Twenty-five hours of observation in an accredited infant/toddler setting is required.
