EDL 520 Leading Diverse Schools

This course examines the complex interplay of diversity and equity within schools and school communities, focusing on race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, religion, culture, and language. Leadership candidates will critically analyze systemic inequities and socio-cultural dynamics, emphasizing advocacy for policy reforms and the promotion of inclusive practices. Through course readings, discussions, and applied activities, candidates will develop skills in asset-based thinking, culturally responsive leadership, and community engagement. The course emphasizes cultivating critical consciousness to identify and dismantle deficit-based perspectives and inequitable structures. Candidates will also explore strategies to build reciprocal partnerships, address implicit biases, and create equitable learning environments that meet the needs of all students and stakeholders.
