CAP 602 Curriculum Theory: Contemporary Issues and Practices

Students in the course consider curriculum theories from 1970 to the present in relation to their assumptions and implications, as well as the socio-cultural, political, and historical movements in which they are embedded. Curriculum studies as a field is explored, along with related fields of study (e.g., disability studies, gender studies, race studies). Students explore how curriculum theory can transform educational practice and policy. The course involves an inquiry project and group deliberation on how various forms of curriculum analysis can be used to understand and enhance ongoing curriculum plans in a school, district, or other educational setting.
