MCH 335 Special Circumstances in Lactation Support
This course prepares students to provide lactation support in complex maternal and infant health situations. Students will examine care for high-risk dyads, including preterm and late preterm infants, medically fragile infants, and infants with cardiac or chronic health conditions. The course addresses maternal challenges including peripartum mood disorders, medical conditions affecting breastfeeding, physical disabilities, and substance use. Students will learn to assess physical, mental, and psychological states and develop appropriate care plans for families navigating special circumstances.
