HED 601 Introduction to Doctoral Studies and the Scholar-Practitioner Model

This foundational course introduces doctoral students to the scholar–practitioner identity and to the expectations, culture, and applied inquiry processes of the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in Higher Education Leadership. Students explore how scholarly inquiry, professional practice, and ethical leadership intersect to inform improvement within higher education systems. Through reflection, analysis, and applied assignments, students learn to identify and frame a problem of practice, evaluate relevant scholarship, and design an initial inquiry plan. The course culminates in a professional development and leadership portfolio connecting personal goals to the dissertation in practice (DiP) journey.
