Phlebotomy, Baccalaureate Certification
The primary purpose of the Phlebotomy Certificate Program is to support current health care workers to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) in order to expand their skillset and career options. The program is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills in the domains of safety and compliance, patient preparation, routine blood collections, special collections, and processing samples. This program is designed to be offered to students who have completed Accelerate U’s medical assisting program.
Program Details
• Requires GPA of min of 2.0 for graduation
• Requires 2 quarter hours for completion
• Requires a min grade of “C” or better in all coursework
• Requires completion of all coursework at NLU
• Students must sit for the NHA Certified Phlebotomist Technician (CPT) exam
Program Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate knowledge of federal and organizational regulations related to safety, compliance, and infection control in the phlebotomy environment.
2. Perform effective patient preparation procedures, including identification, consent, and assessment for testing readiness and special considerations.
3. Apply proper techniques and sequencing during routine blood collection procedures using venipuncture or dermal puncture methods.
4. Conduct special collection procedures such as blood cultures, donor phlebotomy, and newborn screening using appropriate techniques and calculations.
5. Prepare and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing or transport, maintaining sample integrity and following the chain of custody when applicable
Admission Requirements
Successful completion of the Accelerate U medical assisting program.
