Early Childhood Education Subsequent Teaching Endorsement

Teachers who have an Illinois Professional Educator License endorsed for elementary education, secondary education or special education may add an endorsement in early childhood education (Birth- Grade 2) by completing the ECE professional coursework identified below.

Candidates for a subsequent teaching endorsement should be admitted to NLU if they wish to have their transcripts reviewed and evaluated for the endorsement.

In addition to National College of Education Graduate Admission Requirements, program requires:

  • Valid and current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Faculty review

Endorsement Details: 

  • Requires 18 SH for completion
  • Requires a minimum grade of “C” in all coursework
  • Requires passing of the Early Childhood Education content test (#206)
  • Note: Candidates may be eligible for financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information.

Note: Students are also required to complete 1 SH of additional ECE elective course approved by the Program Chair. 

Upon completion of all endorsement requirements, candidates may apply for a State endorsement in early childhood education though NLU's entitlement process.
