RBT 110 Registered Behavior Technician Practicum I
During Practicum I, students will begin working as Registered Behavior Technicians under the supervision of an NLU employer partner. They will complete their employment onboarding process, participate in their competency assessment and sit for the RBT certification exam - two milestones required by the BACB for certification. Additionally, they will be paired with their first client and begin practicing professionally in the field of ABA. Students in Practicum I will participate in continuous reflection cycles in which they will assess their strengths and areas for improvement in their work with their client, identify focus areas and specific actions to take to improve, implement action plans, and reflect on the outcome. Students will further refine their implementation of the RBT Task List, strengthen their communication with stakeholders, and deepen their understanding of concepts such as cultural humility and client dignity. This course provides students with a cohort of peers who are also new to the RBT profession, on whom they can lean for support, advice, and encouragement. Every week, time spent on this course will on average follow a breakdown of 15% working with a client, 15% in synchronous virtual class sessions, and 70% on asynchronous class assignments. Pre-requisite(s): RBT 100. Co-requisite(s): CAR 204. 4 quarter hours
