HSC 503 Counseling and Human Development in a Multicultural Society
This course examines counseling in the context of a multicultural society. The dynamics of human development, interpersonal interactions, communities, and institutions are explored through the lens of gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, ability, religion, and other areas of diversity. Students explore how the differences between and within groups of people have implications for impeding and enhancing the quality of life, resources, and experience of clients. Students develop insight into how to use culturally derived and informed assessments and interventions as they investigate the social justice and advocacy issues pertaining to counseling. Over the duration of the course, students reflect on how their own cultural identities and worldviews can impact clients, the profession, and society-at-large. Pre-requisite(s): HSC 501.
