Safety and Driver's Education Endorsement
The Safety and Driver's Education endorsement program and coursework provides certified Illinois teachers holding a secondary PEL the opportunity to gain a subsequent endorsement to instruct driver education at the high school level. The endorsement requires 18SH and the courses will be offered online in the synchronous and asynchronous format.
The Safety and Driver's Education endorsement is aligned to the ISBE Illinois Driver Education Standards.
Program Details
- Requires 18 SH for completion
- A grade of “C” or better in all coursework is required
- Requires transcript evaluation of previously completed coursework to satisfy 6sh of additional endorsement areas
- Note: Candidates may be eligible for financial aid. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information.
Admission Requirements
In addition to the National Louis University Graduate Admission Requirements, applicants must:
- Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) in secondary education (teaching endorsements can’t be added to administrative and school support PEL’s)
- Submit all transcripts for admission
- Requires transcript evaluation of previously completed coursework to satisfy 6sh of additional endorsement areas

Candidates must satisfy additional 6SH of coursework in at least 2 of the following areas:
- First Aid
- Psychology
- Driver Education Safety
- Advanced Driver Education: Range/Simulator
- Health & Wellness
- Care and prevention of injuries
- Issues related to alcohol or drug abuse
- Driver Education for students with disabilities
