SWK 406 Child Protection Practices Seminar

Child Protection Practices Seminar is the capstone course of the Child Welfare Concentration, designed to prepare undergraduate social work students for professional roles in Illinois child welfare agencies. Through a seminar format, students engage with expert practitioners, complete DCFS-developed online modules, and participate in professional readiness activities aligned with state competencies. Topics include safety and risk assessment, CERAP application, paramour and caregiver considerations, integrated assessments, service planning, case monitoring, and permanency-focused interventions. Students also prepare for the CERAP and Placement Specialty Exams. Completion of this two-part sequence enables students to expedite the CWEL process upon post-graduation employment.
